About AlMasria

AlMasria Universal Airlines, Egypt's leading private carrier, was founded in 2008 and launched operations in June 2009 from its primary hub at Cairo International Airport (CAI). Named after the Arabic word for 'Egyptian,' the airline pioneered as one of the country's first privately owned operators, initially capitalizing on post-2008 financial crisis opportunities to serve growing demand in the region's most populous nation.

Starting with dry-leased Airbus A320s, AlMasria quickly expanded, becoming the first international airline to serve Saudi Arabia's Yanbu and Qassim airports. Today, it operates a fleet of eight narrowbody aircraft—two Airbus A320-200s (177 seats), four A321-200s, and two Boeing 737-400s (168 seats)—focusing on short-haul scheduled and charter flights. Key routes connect Cairo to domestic destinations like Alexandria (HBE), Hurghada (HRG), and Sharm El Sheikh (SSH, a focus city), plus international services to Milan (MXP), Parma (PMF) in Italy, and Istanbul (IST) in Turkey.

The airline emphasizes value-based travel with Egyptian hospitality, offering affordable fares, personalized service, and a commitment to safety and security. Business class perks include priority boarding, lounge access, extra baggage, and exclusive meals. Maintenance is outsourced to EgyptAir, with ground handling by EgyptAir and catering via EgyptAir-LSG Sky Chefs JV.

In 2017, AlMasria shifted toward charters and ACMI (wet-lease) operations, including for Tunisair, reflecting adaptability in a competitive market dominated by EgyptAir. Despite an aging fleet averaging nearly 23 years, it maintains a niche in regional connectivity, serving leisure travelers and Hajj/Umrah pilgrims. Passenger feedback highlights basic economy comforts but criticizes delays, outdated cabins, and service inconsistencies, earning a 2/5 on TripAdvisor from 271 reviews.
