AZAL Azerbaijan Airlines

AZAL Azerbaijan Airlines (J2), the national flag carrier and largest airline of Azerbaijan, was founded on April 7, 1992, following the country's independence from the Soviet Union. Headquartered at Baku's Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD), AZAL has grown into a key player in Eurasian aviation, operating a modern fleet of around 30-36 aircraft to over 50 destinations across Europe, Asia, the CIS, and the Middle East.

Emerging from the remnants of Aeroflot operations, AZAL quickly modernized its fleet, transitioning from Soviet-era aircraft like the Tu-154 to Western jets such as Boeing 757s and Airbus A320s in the 1990s and 2000s.
