Cebgo: Philippines' Premier Regional Turboprop Carrier
Cebgo, stylized in all lowercase, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cebu Pacific, the Philippines' leading low-cost airline. Tracing its roots to 1995 as South East Asian Airlines (SEAir), it pioneered domestic chartering and scheduled flights across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. A 2010 partnership with Tigerair led to rebranding as Tigerair Philippines in 2013 amid regulatory hurdles and competitor protests. Cebu Pacific acquired it in 2014 for ₱672 million (US$15 million), fully integrating and rebranding it as Cebgo in May 2015 to bolster regional connectivity.
What sets Cebgo apart is its all-turboprop fleet of ATR 72-600 aircraft, ideal for short-haul inter-island routes serving underserved destinations. Unlike its jet-focused parent, Cebgo specializes in efficient, cost-effective turboprop operations, including one converted ATR 72-500 freighter for cargo. With 15 active aircraft (average age 7.6 years), it connects 30 domestic points from key hubs like Mactan–Cebu International (CEB) and Ninoy Aquino International (MNL)—though Manila operations phase out by March 2026—plus bases at Clark (CRK), Davao (DVO), and Iloilo (ILO).
As a low-cost carrier, Cebgo emphasizes affordability via Cebu Pacific's GetGo loyalty program, no-frills service, and buy-on-board meals. It plays a vital role in the archipelago's aviation, linking remote islands economically. Despite COVID-19 suspensions in 2020, Cebgo has rebounded, supporting Cebu Pacific's network with reliable regional feeder services. Passenger reviews average around 2.6/5, praising crew friendliness but noting typical low-cost limitations like no WiFi and occasional delays. Cebgo remains distinctive for democratizing air travel in the Philippines' vast island chain.
