Interjet

Interjet (IATA: 4O) was a prominent Mexican low-cost carrier headquartered in Mexico City. Founded in 2005 and commencing operations in December of that year, it quickly grew into one of Mexico's major domestic airlines with an extensive network serving dozens of destinations across Mexico, the United States, and Central America. Known for its competitive fares, friendly service, and modern Airbus fleet, Interjet distinguished itself from competitors by offering complimentary snacks and beverages on flights while maintaining a no-frills model. The airline operated from key hubs including Mexico City International Airport (MEX), Cancún (CUN), and Guadalajara (GDL). It briefly incorporated Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft but faced maintenance challenges. Operations were suspended in December 2020 amid mounting debts, primarily to fuel suppliers, leading to bankruptcy proceedings and eventual liquidation in 2023. Despite occasional rumors of revival, Interjet remains defunct as of 2026, remembered for democratizing air travel in Mexico.
