About Uganda Airlines

Uganda Airlines (UR), Uganda's national flag carrier, is a government-owned airline headquartered at Entebbe International Airport (EBB). Founded on January 30, 2018, as a revival of the original carrier that operated from 1976 to 2001, it launched operations in August 2019 amid high expectations to boost regional connectivity and tourism.

Starting with regional routes to destinations like Nairobi, Mogadishu, and Dar es Salaam using Bombardier CRJ-900ER jets, the airline rapidly expanded. By 2026, it serves 17 destinations across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, including London Gatwick (LGW), Jeddah (JED), and Riyadh (RUH). Future plans include Guangzhou, Mumbai, and Cape Town.

What sets Uganda Airlines apart is its exceptionally young fleet, earning ch-aviation's 'Youngest Fleet in Africa' award for 2021-2025 with an average age under 5 years. Its two Airbus A330-800neos offer modern long-haul comfort with 258 seats (20C/28 Premium Economy/210 Economy), while four CRJ-900s handle efficient regional flights.

As a full-service carrier, it provides interline partnerships with Emirates, Qatar Airways, and others, self-ground handling, and cargo operations. Despite challenges like COVID pauses and operational losses, revenue grew to USh 369.7 billion in 2023-24. Passengers praise the friendly crew and new aircraft but note issues with delays and baggage. With IOSA certification in progress and fleet expansion (A320neos, 787-9s ordered), Uganda Airlines positions itself as East Africa's rising star.
